"People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

IN MEMORY OF HAPLY (11 months), HOPE (22 months), HERO (6 years) and HADIA (10 years)

HERO'S SILVER HEART

HERO HAD A SILVER HEART SHAPE ON HIS LEFT SIDE RIGHT WHERE HIS HEART IS. IT WAS THE PERFECT SYMBOL FOR THE BIG DOG WITH THE BIG HEART LIKE ALL GREAT DANES , THEY ARE NOT ONLY GREAT IN SIZE BUT HAVE GREAT BIG HEARTS. HERO WAS LARGER THAN MOST GREAT DANES AND HAD MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS IN HIS SHORT LIFE, BUT HE FILLED MY HEART WITH HIS PERSONALITY, UNIQUE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND GOOFY ANTICS DAILY. NO DOG WILL EVER BE ABLE TO FILL AGAIN . LOVE YOU ‘BUBBIN’,

HERO • BUBBA • MR. BUBBIN • SILLY BONES • MR. HANDSOME • BIG GOOF
I called him Hero, but he answered to several names. He was so smart, which isn’t a characteristic of Great Danes. As a puppy, he got something out of the garbage next to my computer. I said, “Do you have something in your mouth?” He stared straight ahead. I said,”You need to spit that out” And he did! He understand whole sentences even before he understood commands. He made great eye contact and would wink at me. I knew early on he understood much more than I realized. He was very ill with pneumonia for the first 2 months. He suffered so much but was such a brave puppy. At one point he needed to breath steam so I said, “You need to go breath steam.” He immediately got up and went to hang his head over the bed where the steam was rising. I often wondered if I was communicating with more than just a dog. After months on sulfa drugs, his front legs were crippled. He wore braces, casts and suffered through this painful time without a whimper. He was my Hero. He lost his sister Haply to an early death. Then Hope died suddenly too at 22 months. Both times he wouldn't eat and wore the saddest expression I have ever seen. He never really recovered. He developed a quirky thing by taking anyones arm that came into the house, dragging them to the couch, sitting them down and then sitting next to them, like only great danes do-like a person. His favorite thing became riding in the car to McDonalds for kiddy cones. When he got bone cancer, we went everyday. He deserved it, after a life full of pain and heartache. It wasn't much, but he loved it and would give me a kiss on the cheek while I was driving. He went from being my special needs child to an invalid in 6 years. I’m still glad I knew him.

HERO'S SPOT
HERO SAT ON A PARTICULAR SPOT EVERYDAY OF HIS SHORT LIFE. IT WAS A GOOD SPOT AS HE COULD SEE ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE DOOR. THEN HE COULD ESCORT THEM TO THE COUCH BY GRABBING THEIR ARM. IT WAS HIS CLAIM TO FAIME. I DONT REMEMBER HOW IT ALL STARTED, BUT HE WAS WELL KNOWN FOR IT. IT USED TO MAKE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD. HE WOULD COME AND GET ME IF I WAS WORKING TOO LONG ON THE COMPUTER. HE WOULD BASICALLY DRAG ME BY MY ARM, TO THE KITCHEN FOR A TREAT, THE BATHROOM TO DRINK OUT OF THE FAUCET OR TO WATCH TV WITH HIM ON THE BED. BUT HIS FAVORITE LATER IN LIFE WAS TO DRAG ME TO THE FRONT DOOR TO GO TO McDONALDS IN THE CAR.

HERO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BONE CANCER JANUARY 2010. HE HAS BEEN DEALING WITH PAIN HIS WHOLE LIFE, 6 YEARS.. NO MORE. PAIN BUDDY. I LOVE YOU TO MUCH TO SEE YOU SUFFER.

WITH LOTS OF HUGS AND KISSES, I SAID “SEE YOU LATER” TO MY BEST FRIEND AND PROMISED TO SEE HIM AGAIN IN DOG HEAVEN. HE WAS MORE TO ME THAN A DOG, HE MADE MY LIFE WHOLE.

GOODNIGHT MY BEAUTIFUL BOY-SWEET DREAMS-THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR ME EVERYDAY FOR 6 YEARS. YOU WERE SUCH A GOOD BOY TOO. I MISS YOUR TOES TOUCHING MINE. YOUR MOMMY
